Trying to Move Forward

January 2nd, 2008 at 11:38 pm

I mentioned in my first post that I want to pay off my student loan this year. The reason being I want to use that money to fully fund my IRA. Currently I can only budget $200.00 a month. I just looked at my Fidelity IRA account and I lost another 16 dollars today. I'm really taking a beating Frown

If you bought an equities (stock) fund with your IRA remember that everybody lost money in stocks today, and that the IRA money is long term. Concentrate on what you can control - paying off the student loan debt.

What baselle said. It's best to look at IRA investments only quarterly or so, not day-to-day.

Good luck coming up with a plan to pay off the student loan!

Thanks baselle and Dido, I have gotten into a rut at looking at the IRA everyday even though they say not to. I need to stop doing that.

My plan is basically raising an additional payment each month starting in February. I also plan to throw my tax refund as well as the third pay check in August. This plan should have the loan payed off in November.
